📍 Lorton, Virginia
It was one of those perfect fall days — crisp air, golden leaves, and blue skies — so we headed out to explore one of his all-time favorite spots: the Meadowood Recreational Area in Lorton, Virginia.

🐾 The Hike
The Meadowood Recreation Area is always a treat. The trail winds through quiet woods and open meadows, with streams trickling along the path and bursts of color from late-season leaves.

Bear was in his element — nose to the ground, tail wagging, completely in his happy place. This spot is a little off the beaten path, and that’s part of its magic. We only ran into a handful of other hikers, plus a few equestrians — it’s one of the trails in the area where you might actually see horses out for a ride!

We came across several beautiful streams and a surprising variety of mushrooms and fungus, including some incredible chicken of the woods growing on fallen logs. The forest floor was alive with autumn color and texture — the kind of place where you just want to slow down and take it all in.

A helpful note: the hiking trail starts across the street from the parking lot, so keep an eye out for the trail marker before you head out.
🌞 Perfect Fall Weather
The weather couldn’t have been better — cool enough for comfortable hiking, sunny enough to light up the trees. It’s the kind of day that makes you grateful for the changing seasons and a four-legged hiking buddy to share it with.
